You said "Math Idioms"?

Updated: Aug 25, 2019

On this blog post, I am going to write about idioms, literally "Math idiom"

While searching, I noticed there was not that many idioms. But remember, some are non mathematical term.

Let's see what I have got.

1.To take something out of the equation-

-is generally a non mathematical term meaning to remove something from consideration,

to remove something from the process i.e to reduce one of your options as being unsuitable for further consideration.

“John Doe has no idea how to do his part of the project, he should be taken out of the equation so it runs more smoothly.”

2. To zero in on-

-to direct all your attention to one thing:

We’ve zeroed in on the real problem – we don’t save enough money.

If you zero in a weapon, you aim it directly at something you want to hit:

Computers help the pilots to zero in on their targets.

3. This is a plus-

-This is a positive factor or quality.

4. To the nth degree-

-as much or as far as possible:

We were questioned to the nth degree.

5. The gravity of the situation-

-( formal) the extreme and worrying seriousness of a situation

gravity of

I could not hide from her the gravity of the situation.

The penalties should be proportionate to the gravity of the offence.

6. Bring something into the equation-

-to introduce a new idea for people to consider

It all becomes more complicated once you bring money into the equation.
